I have used it over the past few days and I can say that it is not only about the appearance but also about the performance in everyday usage.

The design is ultra-slim and modern, which is a stand out in the entry-level market. But it is not flawless, the performance of the camera in low-light conditions and software bloat are its weak points. Upon opening the box of the Tecno Spark 40 Pro Plus, I got all the basic stuff I required. It included the phone, a 45W fast charger, a USB Type-C cable, a transparent silicone back cover, a SIM ejector tool, the standard user manual and warranty card. It is nice to note that Tecno has not forgotten to pack a charger and a case in the box, which is no longer provided by many brands now. It completed the unboxing experience and made it fulfilling.

Design & Build Quality

Personally, I have been using the Tecno Spark 40 Pro Plus and I must say that it is more polished than most phones in this range. It is very thin, only 6.5 mm thick and weighs approximately 160 g, so it is light and comfortable to hold all the day. The sides are also rounded softly, which provides a high-end appearance that you do not get on low-cost phones.

To support the build quelity, Tecno provides IP64 dust and splash resistance to the device and even boasts of drop protection to the extent of 1.5 meters, which is exceptional at this price point. The screen is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i (according to official design specs) providing additional level of durability.

The frame is a single piece of aluminum metal wrap, that fuses with the lens module and makes the camera area look clean and integrated. The rear finish is smooth with the shades of Nebula Black, Aurora White, Moon Titanium, and Tundra Green.

I found that the phone is premium and solid in hand, not flimsy, as it is light. The in-screen fingerprint unlocks fast in the majority of cases. There are tactile, clicky buttons, which contribute to a generally pleasing sensation.

With that said, it has certain trade-offs. The back is plastic, so it is not as sturdy when under pressure, and I could feel some bend when you press hard on the sides. That is in comparison to phones such as the Redmi Note 13 or Redmi Note 14 that have AMOLED displays with 120 Hz at a lower resolution (395 ppi) they are bright and cannot compete with the smoothness and sharpness of the Spark 40 Pro+.

However, some users have complained of display issues every now and then. Others have reported small problems such as automatic brightness flickering or even early burn-in on older Tecno AMOLED phones- particularly status bar icons during extended use of static displays. Then, it employs PWM dimming that can lead to flicker on sensitive eyes when the brightness level is low.

In addition, though the brightness is mostly solid, there is no independent laboratory data that proves its capability of visibility in sunlight yet. AI scene recognition automatically corrects the color tone of landscapes, portraits, and food, so the shots are ready to be shared immediately after being taken. The Spark 40 Pro Plus has better color consistency and sharpness when compared to the peers, such as Huawei Nova Y73 or Honor X70i, in daily use.

Low‑light Photo:

In the absence of the Night mode, low-light shots are noisy, soft, and under-exposed. When I switch to Super Night Mode, it can enhance brightness, de-grain, and restore shadows in the image, but it takes 2-3 seconds to take and save a photo. It compares favorably with a good deal in this category, but details can blow and small details can get smeared. Nevertheless, night photography at the budget level is acceptable and can be shared on social media.

The 13MP front camera with dual-LED flash is rather decent. Selfies under bright light are natural and well exposed without much over smoothing. The flash or screen‑flash is useful in low light, but the detail falls away sharply and the results become grainy. It is fine to create content or do a video call but not professional photography. 

The two cameras are compatible with up to 1440p@30fps (or 1080p@30fps) recording. Videos are crisp, colors realistic and stereo sound is clear. Stabilization can be done with software, but only to a limited extent- walking shots appear shaky unless you are very steady. It is good enough to use as a vlog or casual but do not expect a smooth premium recording. 

Nevertheless, it has its limits: no ultra‑wide or telephoto lens, night mode is slow, stabilization is rudimentary, and low light performance is not as good as in more expensive phones.

The Tecno Spark 40 Pro Plus is a good smartphone with decent performance in daylight, a usable night mode, and good selfie and video features to create casual content. It sacrifices low-light detail and stabilization, but on the whole it is punching well above its weight in terms of price.

Performance & Software

I have been using the Tecno Spark 40 Pro Plus on my day-to-day activities like scrolling, messaging, light editing, and it is very responsive and snappy due to the MediaTek Helio G200 chipset that is built on a 6 nm process. The 2x Cortex-A76 and 6x Cortex-A55 cores, and Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, provide a smooth transition and multitasking experience with no lag.

Playing medium-intensive games, such as Free Fire or COD Mobile, is pleasant, and the frame rate and temperature are satisfactory. But the heavier games such as Genshin Impact push the graphics down and have trouble holding stability.

Spark 40 Pro Plus is based on Android 15 with HiOS 15.1 on software. HiOS has handy features such as Ask Ella assistance, AI-writing, smart panel, and FreeLink offline messaging through Bluetooth. It is smooth to use daily and the interface is clean overall.

It is the issue of software support. Slow updates and bugs after upgrades are common complaints by many users, such as apps crashing, user interface bugs, or a drop in performance after an update, especially between Android 14 and 15.

HiOS animation and UI polish are not as good as those on competitors such as Samsung OneUI or newer Redmi HyperOS. Others report stutter or uncivilized interactions.

Although it is said that the bloatware is minimal, users continue to see ads in pre-installed apps. To prevent the interruptions, many recommend such ad-blocking tools as NetGuard.

The Spark 40 Pro Plus provides a solid everyday playability and the software sophistication of modernity at a price point. The Helio G200 is a good performer in terms of multitasking and gaming, and the HiOS 15.1 introduces smart features and a fairly clean interface. 

Nevertheless, keep in mind that there may be bugs connected with updates, slight UI stutter, and in-app ads that are still left. This is a good phone to use on a daily basis, but software polish and support might not keep up with larger brands in the long term.

AnTuTu Benchmark & GeekBench Score

I did not expect much when I saw that the Spark 40 Pro Plus is powered by the MediaTek Helio G200, but in actual benchmarking, the phone performs with a score of  4,74,908 on AnTuTu benchmark v10, which is better than most of the Spark 30 and Pova phones in the same segment. This is good enough as general-purpose responsiveness and light gaming.

In GeekBench, it scores around 717 in single-core and 1,888 in multi-core tests- figures that match what mid-range phones can do, but not the flagship ones.

It is not appropriate to play heavy 3D games such as Genshin Impact. It experiences performance regressions when the graphics are pushed and thermal throttling is evident in prolonged sessions. Nevertheless, the Spark 40 Pro Plus performs well enough when it comes to social use, web browsing, and video calling.

Battery & Charger

I have been using the Spark 40 Pro Plus on a daily basis and I must say that the 5,200 mAh battery is one of its best features. It easily goes through the day with normal usage, such as browsing, video playback, and chatting, and occasionally even into the next day, with an approximate screen-on time of 7-8 hours.

It is impressive to charge at the price. The 45W wired charger included can charge the battery to full in around 55 minutes, and to around 70 percent in around 30 minutes. The only thing that is not common at this segment is the support of 30W wireless charging (magnetic wireless through the included case), and 5W reverse wireless charging to charge other devices in a pinch.

Other users of Tecno phones have complained of quicker battery deterioration with time, particularly following multiple update cycles or intensive use. Besides, fast charging and wireless charging are optimized with the original charger and cable, third-party accessories can slow it down or not initiate the wireless feature correctly.
