Two big adds in the mobile phone industry are going to be foldable display and 5G technology in the coming 2019. Oppo is working on their vision of releasing the first ever 5G phone. Huawei already confirmed that they will release a foldable 5G phone in 2019. We also published earlier that the first foldable display phone is already in the market for pre-order by an almost unknown US brand named Royole. Brands like Lenovo, Xiaomi and LG are also working on foldable display technology phone.
Samsung declared a while ago that they started the foldable project. Now, they have also confirmed that they will release at least one 5G supported and one foldable display phone in March 2019. The next flagship Galaxy S series phone Galaxy S10 should support 5G, but probably it will not come in foldable design. There will be another version with the foldable technology to balance the pricing. That version will be called the “…Galaxy F…” where we guess that the F stands for the fold. Samsung announced in their Developer Conference that the foldable smartphone will have two displays. The regular one is a 4.5-inch 840 x 2152 outer display and then a foldable 7.3-inch 1536 x 2152 inner display.
Samsung already showed the foldable display phone in public but in very low light. The only logic we can think of is that Samsung doesn’t want that their design and technology will be copied before the big release in March. But they have mentioned that an infinity flex display is used in the device. The foldable Galaxy F phone can cost between $1500-$1800 and we couldn’t find any hint about the price of 5G supported Galaxy S10.
