Vivo has launched the Y400 Pro as its thinnest 5G phone with a 3D curved screen. The phone is just 7.49mm thick and packs a massive 5,500mAh battery with support for 90W fast charging. It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset and runs on the latest Android 15-based FunTouch OS 15, which will be smooth and feature modern software features.

The phone also features a 50MP primary camera, which aims to deliver good photography at a price point. To get a better idea of its positioning, I have been using the Vivo Y400 Pro for a few days and compared it to phones in its segment. In this review, I will share my experience and price in Bangladesh.

An In-Depth Review on Vivo Y400 Pro

A new mid range model, the Vivo Y400 Pro, has just been released and is making a lot of noise with its slender design and powerful specifications. It is touted as the thinnest 5G phone with a 3D curved screen and packs a powerful MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset, a big 5,500mAh battery, and 90W fast charging.

When you are thinking about purchasing this phone, you need to be familiar with its main specifications and performance. Here I will analyze its specifications and performance. Also know the Vivo Y400 Pro price in Bangladesh.

Vivo Y400 Pro is packed in a tidy manner with all the accessories you require to get going. The Vivo Y400 Pro smartphone, a 90W fast charger to charge the large 5,500mAh battery fast, and a USB Type-C cable to charge and transfer data are all found inside the box. It also comes with a protective case to ensure the phone is safe against the daily drops, a SIM ejector tool, and other user manuals and warranty information. This is a full package, and you will have everything you need inside in a box.

Design & Build Quality

The Vivo Y400 Pro is quite attractive to the eye; it is slim and curvy and has a modern and sleek feel to it. It is available in three colours, Freestyle White, Nebula Purple and Fest Gold with a slightly different thickness. Freestyle White is the slimmest in our review unit 7.44mm, so it is the right one to choose, in case you desire the thinnest feel. The other two colours are slightly thicker, Nebula Purple 7.49mm and Fest Gold 7.72mm. The phone weighs only 182 grams, which makes it light in the hand, which can be largely attributed to its polycarbonate back that is both durable and lightweight.

The side frame and the rear camera rings have a glossy finish that gives the whole look a slight premium feel. The Dynamic Light beneath the cameras is a small squircle glowing ring that is a unique feature. You can customize this light to alert you when you have incoming alerts, when music is playing or when you are charging, giving you both style and functionality.

It is comfortable to hold the phone, as the edges are smooth and rounded, and they fit well in your palm. But, in case you do not like curved screens, you may instead turn to such devices as Nothing Phone (3a). The first thing to mention is that Vivo has not indicated what kind of glass covers the display, which may worry users who are more concerned with the durability of the screen.

The slim design of the phone enables one to easily access the buttons on the right side which provide good tactile feedback. The left side is clean and does not have any buttons or ports. It has a microphone at the top and the SIM tray, USB-C port, speaker grille and another microphone at the bottom. The earpiece is also used as the second speaker to provide stereo sound to enhance the audio experience.

The camera bump is raised a bit, but the phone is easily kept on flat surfaces. The case provided not only flattens the bump but also has a cover to a USB port to prevent dust and water. The Vivo Y400 Pro is IP65 rated and can resist low-pressure water splashes but is not intended to be fully submerged. All in all, the design and construction is a nice balance of fashion, comfort and practical durability.

Display

Vivo Y400 Pro has a 6.77-inch curved AMOLED screen with a Full HD+ resolution and 388 PPI. The screen is impressive with its highest brightness of up to 4,500 nits, which makes it visible both indoors and outdoors. The display has a fluid 120Hz refresh rate, but the option of switching it to the standard 60Hz is there as well.

I decided to turn on the Smart Switch mode that intelligently switches between 60Hz and 120Hz depending on the content and usage, providing smooth scrolling and smooth animations across the user interface.

The soft curvature of the sides of the display contributes to the immersive viewing experience but does not lead to any irritating ghost touches, which is a nice touch. Thin bezels and a centered punch-hole camera guarantee the most screen real estate, and the viewing experience is more interesting.

The display of the Y400 Pro is slightly cooler in tone than other phones in the segment, such as the Motorola Edge 60 Fusion and Nothing Phone (3a), which may be a little different according to your preference. Although the panel of Motorola provides a somewhat sharper picture, with a higher resolution, the screen of Vivo is also good in detail and contrast.

It has a Widevine L1 certification, which enables the Vivo Y400 Pro to stream HD content on platforms such as Netflix. I tried this with Squid Game Season 3 and the colors were shown to be precise and vivid. The screen, along with booming stereo speakers, courtesy of the downward-firing speaker and earpiece configuration, makes the phone a good bet when it comes to media consumption, making it a great experience whether watching movies, shows, and playing games.

Camera

Vivo Y400 Pro is powered by a 50MP main camera with a PDAF autofocus and 2MP depth sensor, which lacks an ultrawide lens that some of its competitors, such as the Nothing Phone (3a) or the Motorola Edge 60 Fusion, have. It has a 32MP front camera sensor that is used in taking selfies and video calls. The camera app has various functions such as portrait filters, HDR, 50MP mode, Ultra HD Document mode, slo-mo, time-lapse, Supermoon, Dual View, Food, panorama, portrait, Night, and Pro modes. It is worth noting that the phone offers 4K video recording at 30fps using both the front and rear cameras, as opposed to the Nothing Phone (3a) that records 4K only on the rear camera at 30fps.

Daylight Photo:

The 50MP sensor is capable of capturing a lot of detail in well-lit areas, produces good night mode shots and provides acceptable portraits. Nevertheless, it has trouble retrieving shadow detail in harsh lighting as a result of dynamic range compression. Shooting 4K selfie videos is a definite advantage, as it will give clearer video calls and social media.

Dissecting performance under various lighting conditions, the Vivo Y400 Pro has a default Vivid mode in photos and lets you change to Natural mode to have more natural-looking colors. It performs better than Nothing Phone (3a) in detail retention in daylight shooting, resulting in sharper images that have more balanced shadows and highlights. The general dynamic range is well managed even though there is slight noise in the darker parts, like the structure of the pergola.

Low-light Photo:

The Vivo has a more controlled exposure in low light and night mode and colors are nearer to reality. Comparatively, the Nothing Phone (3a) has a higher chance of blowing out bright regions, whereby more detail can be seen, and noise can be produced in other regions. Vivo gives a more balanced effect of brightness and noise reduction. You can also take bokeh shots with 1x, 1.5x and 2x zoom and a consistent color tone using the phone. It has an edge over the Nothing Phone (3a) that has two zoom levels and uneven colors.

Vivo Y400 Pro portraits have a reasonable edge detection, but hair and edges of clothes may look a bit fuzzy. Neither the Vivo nor Nothing phones do a good job of recreating skin tones; Vivo portraits are reddish, whereas Nothing Phone is nearer to a natural wheatish complexion. Retention of details is uneven, with some of the textures appearing oversharpened on the Vivo and finer details such as beard follicles being better visible on the Nothing Phone.

The bokeh intensity and focus areas can be changed after taking a shot in the Gallery app, which is one of the useful features. The Night Mode on the Vivo makes the exposure and sharpness better but adds visible light flares and a default blue tint to the sky, which can be turned off in settings.

In the case of selfie videos, the 4K resolution offers Vivo an advantage in terms of detail and makes the subject well-lit and focused. But the two phones are not doing well with skin tone video accuracy. The Vivo rear camera has muted colors and only has gyro-based electronic image stabilization (EIS) that can lag when fast movements are detected. The autofocus is reliable though, and locks on to subjects fast.

Performance & Software

The Vivo Y400 Pro is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 SoC manufactured on a 4nm process. It has four Cortex A78 performance cores at 2.5GHz and four Cortex A55 efficiency cores at 2.0GHz, and a Mali-G615 MC2 GPU at 1.0GHz. A 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage support this chipset, which has faster memory standards than the Nothing Phone (3a) and Motorola Edge 60 Fusion. The Vivo Y400 Pro does not have a memory card slot, however, like Edge 60 Fusion.

When using the phone in real life, it is smooth when browsing the internet, social media, and the user interface. Applications are fast to load in the memory. Gaming performance is decent with casual games and competitive FPS games performing well.

In BGMI, you will be able to play at HDR graphics with Ultra frame rate, whereas in COD: Mobile, you will be able to play at High graphics with Max FPS. Thermal and battery life are also within reasonable limits, just like its competitors. The long-term performance of the device is also expressed in its decent burnout benchmark scores.

vivo y400 pro performance software image

It is powered by Funtouch OS 15 based on Android 15 that is rich in features with high customization. Notable additions are the Mini Screen Mode to use it with one hand, Game Sidebar with shortcut settings, Esports modes, 4D vibration, picture-in-picture in games, split-screen, Global Search, and other UI and audio improvements. There is a lot of pre-installed software even though the in-built applications are rich in features.

Bells and whistles such as Jovi, an app-widgets and shortcuts dashboard, and app/game recommendations sprinkled throughout the UI may not be to everyone's taste. Another feature that some users may consider not necessary is the auto-rotating lockscreen wallpaper, the Lockscreen Poster, which most of these can be disabled or customized.

AnTuTu Benchmark & GeekBench Score

The Vivo Y400 Pro has good performance benchmarks, which is indicative of its MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset and 8GB LPDDR5 RAM. AnTuTu Benchmark: The phone has a total score of 700,962, which is higher than 15 percent of the smartphones in the same range.

Geekbench Scores: On Geekbench 5, it scores 1,025 single-core and 2,928 multi-core, which means that it has efficient processing capabilities. The scores place Vivo Y400 Pro in a good place in the mid-range smartphone segment, with a smooth multitasking and gaming experience.

Battery & Charger

The Vivo Y400 Pro also comes with a huge 5,500 mAh battery that can easily last more than a day with moderate to light use. During our battery drain tests (30 minutes YouTube, COD Mobile, Real Racing 3, and BGMI), the phone consumed less power than its rivals during gaming. The Nothing Phone (3a) was, however, more efficient when playing YouTube, which shows that there is some space in media optimization.

The Vivo Y400 Pro also delivered respectable scores in the PCMark battery test, although it could not quite match the stamina of the Nothing Phone (3a), which has a smaller 5,000mAh battery and still lasts longer in this test. This is an indication that the battery optimization of the Vivo needs some improvement.

vivo y400 pro battery charging image

The Y400 Pro really excels in charging. The phone is packaged with a 90W wired charger that enables it to charge extremely fast. It takes about 30 minutes to charge, between 20 and 100 percent, faster than the Nothing Phone (3a) and Motorola Edge 60 Fusion. This is a combination of a massive battery and ultra-fast charging that makes the Vivo Y400 Pro a reliable device to use when a user requires long usage times and fast top-ups during the day.

Vivo Y400 Pro Price in Bangladesh

It is available in Bangladesh unofficially and has good value to its price. The Vivo Y400 Pro price in Bangladesh is BDT 37,500 (Unofficial) for 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. At this price, Vivo Y400 Pro is a good choice for users who want to have a sleek and powerful 5G smartphone with a large AMOLED display, decent camera features, and fast charging.

Final Word

Vivo Y400 Pro is a beautiful phone that is easy to handle and use. It provides a well-rounded performance with fluid performance and decent battery life backed by fast charging. Certain software features are slightly messy too and the camera setup could use a bit more versatility but the phone is otherwise a good value at its price. All in all, Vivo Y400 Pro is a decent option to consider by those who want to purchase a stylish and effective mid-range smartphone.
