Upon opening the box of the Tecno Camon 40 Pro 5G, it all seemed well packed. Together with the phone, there was a 45W fast charger, USB-C cable, a transparent protective case, and a SIM ejector tool. Tecno also came with a screen protector that was already applied and this saved me the cost to purchase a separate screen protector. It also came with a little paperwork such as the warranty card and user guide. I was surprised with how complete the box was, considering its price, there was nothing left to be surprised about, just everything to get you going. It was a good value at first sight.

Design & Build Quality

I have had the Tecno Camon 40 Pro 5G with me for a couple of weeks now, and I would go ahead to say that it is one of the most elegant-looking phones in its category. It is slim and sleek with just 7.3 mm thickness with a curved AMOLED display that looks premium in the hand. The back is also matte textured which is a nice addition and avoids fingerprints, making it neat. To my surprise, it is light and therefore I can use it over a long period of time.

The Camon 40 Pro 5G is superior to the other phones on the market such as the Redmi Note 13 Pro and Realme Narzo 70 Pro due to its sleek curved display and super-thin design. It has a 6.78 inch AMOLED Curved display with 144Hz refresh rate that makes scrolling and gaming quite smooth. It is colorful and even under harsh sunlight the screen remains readable. Viewing videos on this phone is a pleasure - it is almost like a small theatre in your pocket.

Compared to other phones in this price range, like the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ or the Infinix Zero 30 5G, the Camon 40 Pro 5G holds its own. While the Redmi offers a slightly brighter panel, Tecno’s curved display gives it a more premium feel. The 144Hz refresh rate is also higher than what most competitors offer at this price.

Nevertheless, it is not ideal. It lacks a microSD card slot, which could be a drawback in case you are storing much media. Additionally, the display is excellent, but it is not HDR certified, and you will not be able to take full advantage of the dynamic range in certain streaming applications.

The video and camera of this phone are one of the best I have ever encountered in this price range. The pictures appear clear and crisp regardless of the time of the day, indoors or outdoors.

Its back features a primary 50-megapixel camera, which has optical image stabilization (OIS) and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens. Photos that are captured during sunny days depict bright colors and broad dynamic range. The person is cleanly separated with the background using portrait mode and skin colors appear natural. Photos remain clear and sharp even in low light of the room.

Nonetheless, when playing a game intensively, such as Genshin Impact, the device can drop frames, and changes might be required to ensure the smooth flow of the game.

It has Android 15 and TECNO HiOS 15 skin. Although there are users who complain of a nice and responsive interface, others have complained of sluggishness and unpredictable app downloads, which can be undesirable to the user experience . That makes it among the best 25 percent of smartphones, beating a good number of mid-range models, such as the Redmi Note 13 Pro+. On GeekBench 6 it achieved solid numbers of approximately 1,028 (single-core) and 3,240 (multi-core) which are good results in its category.
