The OPPO Reno14 is a pleasant experience to unbox. A sleek designed box opened up to reveal the shimmering "Mermaid Princess" edition of the phone, the back of the phone covered in iridescence that caught the light perfectly.
Underneath the device were neatly arranged accessories: an 80W SuperVOOC charger, a USB C cable, a transparent protective case, a SIM ejector tool and the basics in terms of documentation.
However, earphones weren't included, a growing trend among recent smartphone packages. What a treat to have the high speed charger included and be able to power up fast straight out of the box.
Design & Build Quality
The first time I held the Oppo Reno14, I was hit straight away by how refined the elegance was. A cold-carved glass back is an uncommon trait found only in flagship models and the device's back feels smooth and premium and catches the light beautifully. The phone is encased in a brushed aluminium alloy frame offering a slim 7.3mm profile and lightweight 187g body, that feels both sturdy and luxurious, with the phone sitting comfortably in the hand.
Gorilla Glass 7i protects the front, so it resists the daily wear and tear. With its flat 6.59-inch AMOLED display, 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, there's nothing that can compete with it for vibrant visuals and smooth scrolling in every interaction.
While design wise Reno14 is taking inspiration from classic aesthetics with a square camera module that reminds of the latest iPhone Pro series. Two of the module’s main sensors and a third in a pill shaped cutout, are joined by a well placed LED flash.
Glossy is, however, a fingerprint magnet. However, some users may not like the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack.
In the grand scheme of things, the Oppo Reno14 has a very well thought out design and build quality, combining premium materials with ergonomics to come out with a device that looks good and is functional.
Display
When I first powered on the Oppo Reno14, the display immediately caught my attention. The device features a 6.59-inch flat AMOLED panel with a 1.5K resolution, delivering crisp visuals and vibrant colors. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling and fluid animations, enhancing the overall user experience. Additionally, the 240Hz touch sampling rate provides responsive touch inputs, which is particularly beneficial during gaming sessions.
The display's peak brightness reaches up to 1,200 nits, making it easily readable even under direct sunlight. The inclusion of 3,840Hz PWM dimming helps reduce eye strain during prolonged use, a thoughtful feature for users sensitive to screen flickering.
One aspect that stands out is the flat design of the display. Unlike curved screens, the flat panel minimizes accidental touches and provides a more consistent viewing experience across the entire screen. This design choice also contributes to the device's sleek and modern aesthetic.

Camera
At first when I discovered the camera system of the Oppo Reno14 I was really impressed with what it could do. A 50MP main sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) is used at the rear, for better sharpness and stability. To this is added an 8MP ultra wide lens for taking in the world at a greater angle and a 50MP telephoto lens. The 50MP selfie camera on the front takes crisp and detailed images that make it perfect for video calls and selfies.
Daylight Photo:
The Reno14 can capture richly detailed photos in true life color in bright outdoor situations. It has an amazing dynamic range: blue skies, green leaves and even skin tones look natural. However, the 8MP ultra wide lens adds a great deal of versatility, perfect for architecture and landscapes but slightly softens the corners.
Low-light Photo:
Surprisingly, the Reno14 does very well in low light situations. With minimal delay Night Mode kicks in and the results are sharp with controlled noise levels. It's not quite flagship, but it's more than capable of handling night time cityscapes or candle lit moments. Highlights hang on well balanced, but shadows occasionally lack detail.
The Reno14 is capable of video recording 4K at 30fps and 1080p at 30fps and 60fps. With OIS and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) combined, you get smooth footage, even when shooting handheld. Video gets a boost with features like Ultra Steady mode and the like which offer both stability and clarity.
But, just like any other software, some users have reported an occasional stutter when recording video, especially in the higher resolutions or frame rates. I had no major problems with the device during my time with it, but it’s something prospective users should know.

The Oppo Reno14 came up feeling remarkably fluid from the moment I powered it on. The device ran multiprocess with ease thanks to the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chipset and 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM. The Mali G615MC6 GPU was able to switch between apps seamlessly including graphics intense games.
256GB of UFS 3.1 storage meant apps launched quickly and data was accessed quickly. That said, the only downside is there’s no option for expandable storage which might be a deal breaker for those looking at a device with more space.
With Android 15 and ColorOS 15, the Reno14 also comes with a refined user experience. The interface got an update, implementing the dynamic lighting effects and smoother animations. The Aurora and Tidal Engine features help make apps 18% more responsive and 26% faster to install.
AI driven features also make their way to ColorOS 15. Context aware assistance, new image processing tools for one touch person and reflection removal and intelligent image upscaling is what the XiaoBu Assistant offers.
But some users have a few concerns about software updates and bloatware. The interface is smooth, but there are pre installed apps. As well, software update support has been described as inconsistent, with some users complaining of delays in getting the latest features.
All in all, the Oppo Reno14 is a powerful phone with feature-filled software and a great option for people who want a powerful smartphone.

Benchmark scores told me the Oppo Reno14’s story when I put it through its paces.
The Reno14 managed to score a respectable 1,327,873 on AnTuTu Benchmark v10, making it comfortably an upper mid range device. Breaking it down by component, we see: CPU: 289,832, GPU: 518,207, Memory: 261,305, UX: 258,529.
In single core performance, the device scored 1,439 in Geekbench 6 and 4,389 in the multi core.
Results from these tests show that the Reno14 gets the job done for everyday use and multitasking. But if you’re a user demanding the best performance and most certainly in games or intensive applications, there are perhaps better options.
To sum up, the Oppo Reno14 is solid in performance metrics that fit its lineup and user experience smoothly for most daily tasks.
Battery & Charger
The Oppo Reno14 was unboxed and I had to admit the 6,000mAh battery, a size by today’s standards, is quite generous. The battery was impressively long lasting and I got good endurance while using the phone on a daily basis, easily lasting through a full day of heavy usage (streaming, gaming, multitasking) and much more.
The device also charges brilliantly. Included is an 80W SuperVOOC charger that recharges the battery quickly, to 75 % in just 30 minutes and to a full charge in under an hour. It has this rapid charging capability that reduces downtime and keeps you plugged in all day.
Those who want wireless charging will find the Reno14 Pro variant accompanied with 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging, adding to the flexibility and convenience. The device also offers reverse charging to help power up other devices on the go.
There's one caveat with this, though: The wireless charging feature is only available on the Pro model. The functionality isn't there on the base Reno14, but it's still an excellent partner for everyday use thanks to a sturdy battery life and fast wired charging.

You won’t get flagship power on the inside, though.
