Motorola considers the Moto G Max as the best phone in the G series. It has a large 7000mAh battery, 120Hz smooth screen and loud stereo speakers. It also ships with Android 16 preloaded, and Motorola claims that there will be two major software updates.

The Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chip is utilized by the phone. It is OK for everyday use including social media, videos, light games. It also is durable, as it has dust and splash resistance (IP64) and a tough Gorilla Glass front.

It does have a few drawbacks, however. There is no AMOLED display and the rear cameras are simply average. Charging is also a bit slow as well. Then, is the Moto G Max the right phone for you? Let's see in this review.

An In-Depth Review on Motorola Moto G Max

The Motorola Moto G Max is made for people who want long battery life and a smooth everyday experience. It's powered by the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 processor, Android 16, 7000mAh battery, 6.72-inch 120Hz display and stereo speakers. We will examine its design, display, performance, cameras, battery life, price in Bangladesh and overall value to the common user in this review.

Box Content

This is what you get inside the Motorola Moto G Max box:

  • Motorola Moto G Max Smartphone
  • 33W TurboPower Charger
  • USB Type-C cable
  • SIM ejector tool
  • User manual

The Moto G Max comes with the phone itself, a 33W TurboPower charger, a USB Type-C cable, a SIM ejector tool and the user guide and warranty documents. No case or headphones will be provided. Additionally, the phone doesn't include a screen protector, so you might need to purchase a case and protector separately to ensure additional protection.

Design & Build Quality

Moto G Max is sleek and easy-to-use. The edges are flat and matte, which makes it easy to hold the phone. The back is smooth and satin and has very little fingerprinting. The camera portion is almost flush with the back, but extends out a bit from the camera rings. There are three colors: Stargazer, Alaskan Blue and Malaga.

The phone is 166.23 mm tall, 76.50 mm wide, and 8.60 mm thick. It weighs 213 grams. It's a bit too much, but it's fair for a phone that has a large 7000mAh battery. It is comfortable in one hand for brief periods of time and your wrist may become tired after extended periods of use.

The front is coated with Gorilla Glass 7i that makes it resistant to scratches and drops. The frame is plastic, and that's not as high quality as a metal frame. The screen borders are slightly thick too and bottom chin is large.

The mobile phone is IP64 rated. This guarantees it won't be disturbed by dust and small amounts of water splashing. However, don't throw it in water. Also, it is MIL-STD-810 protected, meaning it can withstand harsher usage.

There's also a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB Type-C port at the bottom. Overall, the build is solid and functional, but not as slim or flashy as other phones in its class.

Display

The Moto G Max's screen is 6.72 inches IPS LCD panel. Large and ideal for videos, games and social media. It has a resolution of 1080 X 2400 pixels (FHD+), and a pixel density of 391 ppi. This will result in a sharp, clear text and images in everyday use.

This screen's best feature is the 120Hz refresh rate. Scrolling, swiping and app animation is smooth. Not all phones in this class have this feature, so it's a great added touch.

Brightness can be up to 1050 nits. This is adequate for most indoor applications. It's supposed to be legible in daylight outside, but it might not be as bright as some competitors.

This is an LCD so there are some limitations. The colors do not appear as vibrant as in an AMOLED screen and blacks appear shallower. The viewing angles are also less. The colors may change slightly if viewed side on.

The front camera is located at the top, in a small punch-hole, so it doesn't get in the way. 86.2% of the front is taken up by the screen. The borders are somewhat thick, however, and the bottom chin is large.

The display is protected from scratches and small drops by the Gorilla Glass 7i. It also has multi-touch functionality, which means that gestures and gaming controls are effective.

Overall the display is smooth, sharp and good for daily use. If you're looking for rich colours and deep blacks, however, it would be better to get hold of an AMOLED phone.

Camera

The Moto G Max has a dual rear camera system. The primary camera features a 50MP sensor from Sony called LYTIA 600 and an f/1.8 lens, with phase detection AF. A 2.2f-stop 8MP ultra-wide camera is located next to it. There's also an LED flash, and you'll also have HDR, touch to focus, face detection and ISO control. There is just digital zoom; i.e. far away shots will not be as detailed.

Daylight Photo:

Photos appear vibrant and striking in good lighting. Colors tend to be saturated and contrast is high. This can be pretty appealing on social media, but it isn't necessarily true in reality. Focusing on fine detail is average throughout, Shadow areas are a bit dark. The ultra-wide camera provides a broader perspective, and the quality is less as compared to the main camera.

Low-light Photo:

Under low light, the rating is average. Noise and light flare is fairly well controlled in the main camera, which is a plus. Photos aren't always sharp and colors are not always real. Blurry images also can result, especially for fast-moving subjects. The overall quality of the night shots on this device is not that great.

The front camera is the most attractive feature of the camera system. There's a 32MP sensor that produces sharp selfies with good exposure and good detail. Highlights are very manageable and skin tones come across well in the majority of lighting. The screen is also a flash upon taking a selfie in low light situations.

The rear and front cameras can shoot video at up to 1440p (2K) at 30 or 60 frames per second (fps). You can also shoot 1080p at 30 or 60 fps. This is a minor disappointment at this price as there is no 4K video. Still, 1440p video is quite crisp for regular clips and social media.

The cameras are great for quick use and the selfie camera has been an excellent addition. However, its rear cameras fall short of the top of the range. If you're all about the photos, consider other brands that have better rear photography.

Performance & Software

The Moto G Max is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chip which has been manufactured from 4nm. It is equipped with an octa core processor comprising four high clock speed cores (2.4 GHz) and four low power consumption cores (1.8 GHz). It uses the graphics from the Adreno 710 GPU. It will also come with 6GB of fast LPDDR5X RAM for multitasking.

The phone functions well in normal uses. All calls, texting, browsing and streaming videos are comfortable. Apps do not need to wait too long to open and switching between apps does not cause lag. Not that it's too brisk but it's not too sluggish.

When it comes to gaming, it supports casual games and popular ones like BGMI and Call of Duty: Mobile without any noticeable lag. It isn't a gaming device phone however. Heavy games should be played on medium difficulty. It may lose a bit under extended and heavy use.

The device will be running on software with Android 16 and Motorola's Hello UI. It's messier than the older Motorola software. You'll be getting some pre-loaded apps and some suggested apps as well, though this is less than some of the competitors. You still have nifty Motorola gestures, such as chopping for the flashlight or twisting for the camera.

Motorola offers two substantial Android updates along with 3 years of security patches. That's okay, but the Redmi Note 17 comes with the extended support. Overall, the phone is good for the everyday user but not for power users.

AnTuTu Benchmark & Geekbench Score

In the benchmarks, the Moto G Max is performing well, with stability that corresponds to its practical performance.

About 7,96,359 points are achieved by the phone in AnTuTu Benchmark 11. The CPU gets 320,362, the GPU gets 115,629, memory gets 147,096, and the user experience score is 222,860. This puts it in the upper mid-range group.

Geekbench 6, 818 (single-core) and 2154 (multi-core). The GPU compute score is 1,479. While they're suitable for activities such as browsing the internet, using social media, and watching videos, they won't work well for high-intensity tasks.

Multiple tasks and apps will run smoothly, casual games will be okay. However, it has a low GPU rating, indicating that it is not designed for gaming.

Battery & Charger

The Moto G Max's best feature is its battery life. It features a large 7000mAh battery and is a silicon-carbon type. The battery is solidly installed in the phone and cannot be taken out.

In normal usage, the phone can last for a whole day. Videos, social media and phone calls are not a problem for most people. Light users might even extend the use of it to the second day. For heavy users, such as gamers, it might be necessary to top up at night. According to Motorola, it can last for up to 3 days, but that requires minimal usage.

The phone performed the PCMark battery test for approximately 18 hours in one test. It's a good outcome. It drained just 13% battery life in each of the real-life streaming and gaming sessions.

It's OK to charge, but not quick charge. The phone has a 30W wired charging port, using USB Type-C 2.0. The box contains the 33 Watt TurboPower charger. It will take 20% to 100% around 80 minutes. No wireless charging available.

Overall, battery performance is good for extended periods off the grid, but the charging time may be improved.

Motorola Moto G Max price in Bangladesh

The Motorola Moto G Max is priced at ৳35,000 (unofficial) in Bangladesh for the 6GB 128GB variant. This is a relatively expensive device for its capabilities. It has a decent battery life, decent speakers, but maybe more RAM, more storage, or an AMOLED display for a comparable price from competitors. Also, this is an unofficial import and support for warranty may be limited. Ask a seller about his or her house.

Final Word

It is a decent handset for those who require lots of battery life, loud stereo speakers, and a smooth 120Hz display. It's also a good selfie taker and tough guy. But the slow charging, average rear cameras and the LCD screen put it on the back burner. If they are not important to you, it's a good regular phone. If you're seeking to get more camera or AMOLED displays then consider alternatives.
