Sony Xperia 1 VIII was officially announced on May 13, 2026 and is scheduled for a release on June 19, 2026. Sony announced it at an event around the world, and said it would be available in “selected” markets in Japan, Europe and Asia.

The smartphone has a 6.5-inch LTPO OLED display with a 1080×2340 resolution, supports HDR and an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. The Xperia 1 VIII is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. The phone features Android 16 as its operating system.

It features a triple 48MP rear camera setup of wide, ultra-wide and periscope telephoto lens. Its front camera features a 12MP sensor, capable of producing clear and natural looking photos and videos. The Xperia 1 VIII features a 5000mAh battery that can be charged at 30W via the USB cable, 15W wirelessly and also backwards.The 5G, Wi-Fi 7, NFC, stereo speakers and water and dust resistant (IP65/IP68) features.

Sony's never been into producing a phone for all of its customers. In May 2026, the Xperia 1 VIII will be available, which is testament to that, and it's nice to see. The rest of the Android world has been busy removing headphone jacks and microSD slots entirely, Sony, on the other hand, quietly retained both and also added a dedicated camera shutter button as well as stereo speakers on the front.
