Xiaomi Redmi 12C review

This review was written after analyzing its features as well as evaluating hands-on video review/s by trustworthy reviewer/s.

Xiaomi Redmi 12C, we are going to review the 4/64 GB model which is currently available at ৳13,999 price in Bangladesh.

Design and Build

The phone is available in a few different colors such as Graphite Gray, Ocean Blue, Mint Green and Lavender Purple. We have checked out the Graphite Gray color which is our favorite color choice for this specific smartphone. The back side has a bit of a texture. It reminds us of good old Xiaomi phones from a few years ago and has a nostalgic feel to it. But it would be good to see some new kinds of designs as well. The fingerprint sensor is placed inside the back camera module and some of us find the placement to be too high for comfortable one-hand unlocking.

On the front, there is a typical V-shaped notch and a fairly thin bezel at the bottom. It’s just too classy, old is the gold type of device. If you are not into that kind of stuff, the design won’t attract you in the Q3 2023 season. The body is made of plastic and there is no screen or splash protection.

Display

We have a standard 6.71-inch HD+ IPS LCD display. However, there is no 90Hz refresh rate which is quite surprising. You won’t expect this feature to be missing from a phone at this price especially when the brand is Xiaomi. The peak brightness of the display is 500 nits which is quite average as well and you will struggle a bit under sunlight view. The display could not impress us at all.

Camera

The 50 MP main back camera is the first good thing that caught our attention. The colors looked nice, we liked the amount of detail although it’s not on a premium level and we don’t expect it either at a price like this. But then it’s not good enough in low-light conditions. There are a lot of noise and grains, just like any other regular camera for this cost. There is a night mode and it gives slightly better pictures.

The 5 MP front camera is very dull. It makes the pictures over-smooth and artificial, especially, the skin tones. Lack of details and sharpness are well-visible. At least an 8 MP camera would be fair. The front camera is not recommended at all.

Battery and Performance

The 5000 mAh battery comes with a 10W charger which sums it up for us. 10W charger at 14K, nah, we don’t buy it. You can find phones at a lower price with 18W chargers and we expected better from Xiaomi.

There is a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset which is a good deal for the price and you should be satisfied with the performance. But then there is Android 12 and you’ll get most phones nowadays with Android 13 already.

Storage, Connectivity and Others

There is fast UFS 2.2 64 GB storage with a dedicated MicroSD slot. There is no No USB Type-C. The back-mounted fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate. Sensors like Gyroscope and E-Compass are missing.
