Oppo A78 4G model was recently released in Bangladesh with a price tag of ৳27,990 for the 8/256 GB model. Here in this article, we have attempted to give a more in-depth look at the gadget.
Design and Build
One of the main advantages of this smartphone is that it comes with a very fine design as well as a pretty solid build. It has a premium and slightly unique-looking backside. It comes in two different colors, Mist Black and Aqua Green. If you want that minimalistic elegant feel, go for the black version. The aqua-green version has a more shiny feel, but it looks subtle and not cheap. It also does not attract any kind of fingerprints. There is only 7.9 mm slimness so, it of of the slimmest phones out there. Overall we are getting a nice look and very comfortable grip.
The left-punch-hole display is protected by a 5th. gen. Gorilla Glass. The body is IP54-certified splash and dust-resistant. Well, you couldn’t ask for any better than this, especially in mid-range phones. You could ask for a glass back but it’s not that important.
Display
Oppo A78 comes with a 6.43-inch decent-sized Full HD+ AMOLED screen. The AMOLED screen provides very vibrant colors and the color tones will sure be eye-pleasing for you. It supports a 90Hz refresh rate. It has only 430 nits maximum brightness which looks pretty low in the specs sheet. But the viewing experience is still decent under sunlight and it will work just fine.

Camera
The 50 MP main back camera and the 8 MP front camera are not very satisfactory at this price. If you are looking for a good mid-range camera, there are better options out there. The dynamic range isn’t that good. There is lack of details. You will get soft-tone photos. The lack of quality is well-visible. The back camera has highest 1080p@30fps recording option and there is no 60 fps.
However, the color look nice and the 8 MP selfie camera provides better shots than it sounds like. The back camera also has stabilization for HD recording. These are not that bad cameras. It’s just not very suitable at this price point and if the price was around 20K, we would surely complement them.
Battery and Performance
The 5000 mAh battery comes with a 67W SuperVOOC fast charger. It can charge the phone from 0 to 100% in just about 45 minutes. You get this kind of charger very rarely in mid-range phones and Oppo is definitely a winner when it comes to the battery and charging.
In the performance section, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G (6 nm) chipset. Again, this is a low-performance chipset in mid-range phones. It gets an Antutu score of 271220. We don’t expect less than a Helio G99 chipset for this cost and you will get a lot of phones with a Helio G99 chipset from brands such as Infinix and Tecno Mobile. The Helio G99 has an Antutu score of 358794. This gives you an idea about the amount of difference in their performance. There is 8 GB RAM and Android 13 but it doesn’t cover up the low performance of the chipset. If you are a mobile gaming enthusiast, the Oppo A78 is not for you. There is latest Oppo ColorOS 13.1 UI which offers pretty smooth UI experience together with Android 13.
But the Snapdragon 680 4G chipset is known for giving longer battery life. You’ get one and half to two days backup for regular usage. It also generates less heat while playing games. It is an optimized and stable chipset. It just lacks behind in terms of higher gaming performance and graphics quality.
Storage, Connectivity and Other Features
There is 256 GB UFS 2.2 internal storage which is indeed a very good feature of this phone. There is also a MicroSD slot if you want to expand the memory even further. There is No FM Radio but we have USB Type-C and NFC. The dual stereo speakers enhance its audio quality. There is also a fine in-display fingerprint sensor.
